The Ulysses was one of the three vessels ordered for the rapid trade expansion trough the Suez Channel; on the Lyoid's register books is written that it left the port of London in August 1887 directed to Penang. Immediumtely out of the Channel, the very calm sea prevented to see the reefs, so on early morning of August 16th the vessel hit one of the Gobal's reefs. In the begging, the Captain supposed that the collision didn't brought any serious damage, so he refused any help offered by others boats passing by there. For two weeks all the crew was full of activity to repair the damages, to empty the hold and to save the cargo, but all those efforts were useless, because one week later the strong wind got finally the vessel sunk. All the crew was rescued.
